Echo Canyon Cliffs
Echo Canyon, Utah - July 2003
Atop these red cliffs the Mormon Militia constructed
and manned fortifications known as "breastworks"
for use in defending their promised land against attack
by 2,500 troops sent west by President James
Buchanan during the Utah War of 1857-58. The
installations were never truly tested, as a peaceful
settlement was reached in the spring of 1858
